~ Canada Day ~
On June 20, 1868, a proclamation
signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's
loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary
of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in
a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st. The July 1 holiday was
established by statute in 1879, under the name Dominion Day.
On October 27, 1982, July
1st which was known as "Dominion Day" became "Canada Day".
~ O Canada ~
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy
sons command.
With glowing hearts we see
thee rise,
The True North strong and
free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard
for thee.
God keep our land glorious
and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard
for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard
for thee.
"I am a Canadian, free to
speak without fear,
free to worship in my own
way,
free to stand for what I think
right,
free to oppose what I believe
wrong,
or free to choose those who
shall govern my country.
This heritage of freedom I
pledge to uphold for myself and all mankind."
